Apigenin is a naturally occurring flavonoid compound that exists as a yellow pigment in various plants, primarily derived from *Apis regia*, a plant in the Apiaceae family. It has also been found in other plants such as chamomile, lemon balm, perilla, verbena, and yarrow. Its temperature range is 345℃～350℃. It is almost insoluble in water, readily soluble in hot ethanol, and soluble in dilute potassium hydroxide (KOH) solution.

Apigenin is a natural antioxidant with effects such as lowering blood pressure, dilating blood vessels, preventing atherosclerosis, and inhibiting tumors. Compared with other flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol flavonoids), it has the characteristics of low toxicity and no mutagenicity. Currently, apigenin has some applications in the pharmaceutical and food industries. However, due to its poor water solubility and low intestinal absorption, its oral bioavailability and in vivo activity are low, which limits its application to some extent.
