Introduction: Ethylene glycol is a colorless, transparent, viscous liquid with a sweet taste and hygroscopic properties. It is miscible with water, lower aliphatic alcohols, glycerol, acetic acid, acetone and similar ketones, aldehydes, pyridines and similar coal tar bases, slightly soluble in diethyl ether, and practically insoluble in benzene and its homologues, chlorinated hydrocarbons, petroleum ether, and oils.
Applications: Ethylene glycol is mainly used in the production of polyester resins, alkyd resins, plasticizers, and antifreeze agents. It is also used in cosmetics and explosives.
