Introduction: Acetylcholine chloride is a white crystalline powder, highly hygroscopic, with a slight ammonia odor and an extremely salty taste. MPa: 149-152℃. A 10% aqueous solution has a pH of approximately 5 and decomposes easily in hot water and alkaline solutions. It is readily soluble in water, ethanol, and propylene glycol; soluble in chloroform and acetic acid; and insoluble in ether. It has low toxicity; the LD50 (rat, oral) is 2500 mg/kg.
Applications: Acetylcholine chloride is used as a substrate for the determination of acetylcholinesterase; clinically, it is used as a cholinergic drug.
