Products Description
Thiophene is a five-membered heterocyclic compound containing one sulfur heteroatom. It exists in small amounts in crude benzene obtained from coal tar. It is a colorless liquid with an aromatic odor similar to benzene, a boiling point of 84°C, and is insoluble in water. It is miscible with ethanol, ether, acetone, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, heptane, pyridine, and 1,4-dioxane. It is flammable. It has strong heat resistance, remaining undecomposed even when heated to 850°C. It does not polymerize, decompose, or readily oxidize under strong acid conditions. It has moderate toxicity.

Application
Thiophene is primarily used as a pharmaceutical intermediate in the preparation of drugs such as thiamethoxam and thiamethoxam. It is also used as a raw material in the synthetic resin and dye industries. Additionally, it is used as an organic solvent. As a chemical reagent, it is used as a standard reagent in chromatographic analysis.
