Introduction: 6-Hydroxy-7-methoxy-3H-quinazolin-4-one can be used as a pharmaceutical intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds with certain activities, such as a key intermediate in the synthesis of gefitinib. Gefitinib is an orally administered small molecule inhibitor of EGFR tyrosine kinase developed by AstraZeneca. Its trade name is Iressa. It was first launched in Japan in 2002, primarily for the treatment of locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer. It was approved for marketing in China by the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) in 2005.
