2-Methoxybenzaldehyde is an organic compound with the molecular formula C8H8O2 and CAS number 135-02-4. At room temperature, it is a colorless, prismatic crystal with an odor similar to phenol. It has a melting point of 39°C, a boiling point of 238°C, and a density of 1.1326 g/mL. It is insoluble in water but soluble in alcohols, ethers, and benzene. Its chemical properties are sensitive to air; it reacts with sulfuric acid to form a yellow color, is flammable, and releases toxic fumes when burned.

2-Methoxybenzaldehyde is an organic synthesis intermediate used in the synthesis of stilbene and dihydrostilbene derivatives as potential anticancer drugs. It is also used in the synthesis of highly functionalized pyrrolidines as potent angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors; and in the production of fragrances and pharmaceuticals.
