It is an important active ingredient in the traditional Chinese medicine Citrus aurantium and has the effects of strengthening the heart, increasing cardiac output, constricting blood vessels, increasing total peripheral vascular resistance and thus raising left ventricular pressure and arterial blood pressure, anti-shock, and weight loss.

Synephrine is used for shock, heart failure, bronchial asthma, low blood pressure during surgery and anesthesia, collapse and shock, and orthostatic hypotension.

Synephrine should be stored in a cool, dry, and dark environment, typically at a temperature between 0-25°C, avoiding high temperatures and humidity.
