Paracetamol, white crystals or crystalline powder, CAS No.: 103-90-2, molecular formula: C8H9NO2, molecular weight: 151.16, melting point: 168-172°C, odorless, slightly bitter. It is easily soluble in hot water or ethanol, soluble in acetone, and almost insoluble in cold water and petroleum ether. Stable below 45°C, but when exposed to humid air, it hydrolyzes into p-aminophenol, which then further oxidizes, causing the color to gradually change from pink to brown and eventually black. Therefore, it should be stored in a cool, dry place.
Application
This product is an antipyretic and analgesic. Its international non-proprietary name is Paracetamol. It is the most commonly used non-inflammatory antipyretic and analgesic. Its antipyretic effect is similar to that of aspirin, but its analgesic effect is weaker. It has no anti-inflammatory or anti-rheumatic effects. Paracetamol is considered the best among the acetanilide drugs. It is particularly suitable for patients who cannot use carboxylic acid drugs. It is commonly used for treating colds, toothaches, and more. Additionally, paracetamol serves as an intermediate in organic synthesis, a stabilizer for hydrogen peroxide, and a photographic chemical.
