Meropenem Trihydrate is a synthetic broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic that exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Meropenem readily penetrates the cell walls of most Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria to reach its target, penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs).

Meropenem Trihydrate is indicated for adults and children for the following infections caused by single or multiple meropenem-sensitive bacteria: pneumonia (including hospital-acquired pneumonia); urinary tract infections; gynecological infections such as endometritis and pelvic inflammatory disease; skin and soft tissue infections; meningitis; and sepsis. For empirical treatment, in adults with granulocytopenia and fever, it can be used alone or in combination with antiviral or antifungal agents. Meropenem, alone or in combination with other antimicrobial agents, can be used to treat infections caused by multiple bacteria. There is currently no experience with the use of this product in infants with neutropenia or primary or secondary immunodeficiency.
