Products Description
Formamide is an amide derived from formic acid, with the molecular formula HCONH₂. It is a colorless liquid, miscible with water, and has an odor similar to ammonia. It is mainly used in the production of sulfonamide drugs, the synthesis of vitamins, and as a softener for paper and fibers. Pure formamide can dissolve many water-insoluble ionic compounds, and is therefore also used as a solvent.
Application
Applications: Formamide is used as an animal glue, paper softener and solvent; in the spinning of acrylonitrile copolymers; as a solvent in unsaturated amine polymerization; in pharmaceutical production; as a solvent for purifying oils and fats; and in the aforementioned dissolving processes. It is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of imidazoles, pyrimidines, 1,3,5-triazines, caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine. It is used as a raw material in dyes, fragrances, pigments, adhesives, textile auxiliaries, and paper treatment agents. It is also a raw material for the production of formic acid and dimethylformamide.
