Description

α-Lipoic acid appears as a pale yellow, crystalline powder, almost odorless. Its chemical structure is 6,8-diDL-lipoic acid, with disulfide bonds between the 6th and 8th carbon atoms forming an internal disulfide compound. Upon reduction, the disulfide bonds break to form dihydroDL-lipoic acid. α-Lipoic acid is insoluble in water but soluble in lipid solvents; some classify it as a fat-soluble vitamin. It is readily soluble in methanol, ethanol, chloroform, and ether.

Application

α-Lipoic Acid is a highly effective antioxidant that plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of many diseases. It is used in the treatment and health maintenance of acute and chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, hepatic coma, fatty liver, diabetes, and other conditions.

Storage and transportation

Storage Conditions:

α-Lipoic Acid sulfur powder is prone to thermal decomposition at high temperatures (>30℃), shortening its half-life from 12 months at 25℃ to 3 months at 35℃. Therefore, it should be stored in a cool environment (15-25℃), avoiding direct sunlight and heat sources (such as heaters and ovens). For long-term storage (>6 months), refrigeration (2-8℃) is recommended, but repeated freeze-thaw cycles (≤3 times) must be avoided, otherwise ice crystals will form, causing powder agglomeration and affecting dispersibility and dissolution rate. Oxygen barrier is key to preventing oxidation.
